Five Mindset Tips for Motivation

Five Mindset Tips for Motivation

Have you made progress or did your motivation sizzle out?

Most people wait around for motivation to strike them like a lightning bolt. Well, I’ve got news for you: motivation isn’t something that happens to you – it’s something that you create for yourself.

If you don’t feel motivated to achieve your goals, it may be because you’ve got mental roadblocks that are holding you back. Read the following 5 Mindset Tips and prepare your mind – and body – for success!

1.Success comes first in the mind, so visualize yourself accomplishing your goals. When I trained for the Chicago marathon, I visualized myself crossing the finish line every time I ran. In my mind, I saw it, I ran towards it, I’d hear the people on the streets cheering and then I’d see my feet cross that line. And boy did it feel great when I actually did it!

2.You are the only person who can hold you back. Sometimes reaching for a goal can seem impossible. All kinds of stumbling blocks may discourage you and the sob story of why “you can’t” takes away all of the positive thinking. Realize that if you BELIEVE you can, then YOU CAN. Get out of your own way and start sprinting to the finish line, because you have all the power to do that!

3.Forgive yourself and love yourself despite past failures. Thomas Edison dreamed of a lamp that could be operated by electricity. Despite over 10,000 failures, he never gave up until that dream became a reality. Need I say more?

4.Set small attainable goals first, and learn to follow through. There was a time in my life where I never accomplished anything I set out to do. I’d get all fired up about joining a new gym, taking a new course or finally organising my tax receipts! But soon after I’d start, I lose the motivation or get bored quickly. Let’s face it, sometimes we want change so bad, we want to do a complete 180, but we can’t actually stick to the goal because it’s just too huge. If you have trouble with the follow through, start setting small goals first – ones that you KNOW you can achieve. Once you’ve started achieving the small goals, you’ll gain more confidence and get the momentum rolling for when you decide to conquer a bigger goal down the road. My friend always says: “Inch by inch it’s a cinch”!

5.Know your big reason why.IMG_00000379 If you don’t really know WHY you are doing something, how are you going to convince yourself that it’s worth doing when things get tough? One of the biggest reasons people quit is because they stumble upon a road block. That’s when knowing your WHY becomes essential to your success. Knowing why you’re getting up at the crack of dawn to work out or saying no to that cheese cake will move you forward towards your goal and get you motivated even when you’re not feeling it.
